What Happens When You Contact Me
If you're new to therapy, it can be hard to know what to expect. Even if you've been to therapy before, every therapist works differently. Here's what happens once you get in touch.
Free 20-minute phone or Zoom call
I'll aim to respond to your message within 24 hours to arrange a brief, no-pressure phone or Zoom call. This is a chance for you to ask questions, share what's bringing you to therapy, and get a sense of how I work.
If it feels right, we'll book your first session together. If not, that's absolutely okay too – there’s no pressure or obligation.
Once we’ve agreed to work together, I’ll send you my Therapy Agreement, which outlines how we’ll work and what you can expect.
Your First Therapy Session
In our first session, we'll talk about what’s brought you here, what you're hoping therapy might help with, and what feels important to you. If you've tried therapy before, we’ll also talk about what was helpful or unhelpful in that experience.
You don't need to prepare anything specific, but some people find it helpful to jot down what they'd like to talk about or any questions they have.
We'll usually meet at the same day and time each week (or fortnight) going forward. Whether we meet online or in person, we'll find a rhythm and approach that works for you, and we can review this regularly as your needs change.
If you're in crisis right now
If you're having thoughts of harming yourself or are in immediate distress, please seek urgent support:
- Call 999 and ask for an ambulance
- Go to A&E
- Contact your crisis team (if you have one)
- Call your GP or use NHS 111
- Samaritans: 116 123 (24/7, free to call)
Therapy is not a crisis service, but I'm here to support you once you're safe.
